When placing multiple heaters on a circuit do not exceed the wattage listed for the corresponding wire and circuit breaker size. If more heaters are needed either run a new circuit or increase the wire and breaker size to accommodate the load. A Watt heater will cost the same to run whether it is or Volt. A Volt heater run at Volt will be destroyed and poses a severe fire hazard. What voltage are my heaters? Helpful Hints Fan Heater or Baseboard? A baseboard heater takes up more wall space than a fan-forced heater which can cause problems placing furniture. A fan-forced heater will heat a room within a few minutes whereas a baseboard will require 30 to 40 minutes. A fan-forced heater will also maintain a more even temperature because the fan will circulate air around the room. A baseboard heater has no moving parts and therefore is quieter than a fan heater.

Past few days one room in my house has had a strange smell and I finally narrowed it down to coming from one section from a gas baseboard heater. Its right where the pipe comes up from the basement. I also has 2 coax cables that were run along side it by previous owner. Im thinking of removing those coax cables from this room and 2 other rooms where the cable company ran coax and ethernet cables along the heating pipes and making a separate hole to have it terminate with a proper wall mounted outlet.
Im not sure if maybe that is causing the smell or if its this strange white foam like substance that is around the pipe I guess it was used to fill in the hole. The smell is hard to describe, at first I thought my cat left some poop in that room because it smells very similar to when the cat has pooped outside her litter and dried up. It also smells a slight bit fishy.
The other issue with heater is uneven distribution of heat. One side of the house gets warm while other side gets really warm. The room having the smell issue is in the extra warm area. It gets about degrees while other side of house gets to around We have 1 old thermostat that controls all heat. And final issue I’m trying to figure out is one ceiling fan light fixture has been flickering when 3 light bulbs are connected. It wasn’t having this issue before.
Install Your Own Line Voltage Baseboard Heater Thermostat
September 21, , Wow, time goes by fast. I’ve an indoor boiler with a 9 gallon water jacket and have it plumbed to pump the hot water through three baseboard heating zones with each pump controlled by its own zone thermostat.
Aug 25, · But, you’d need to hook up a wattmeter to check your daily average power consumption on cold days for just the heaters, unless they ran continuously just to keep up.
Prep Work Run the sheathed cable from your circuit breaker to your thermostat location. Run the remaining cable from the thermostat location to the location where your garage heater will hang Install the junction box at the location where your heater will hang with two screws Support the sheathed cable with the cable straps Helpful Hint: It’s best if you space the cable straps approximately 4 feet apart with cable straps approximately 12″ from the junction box, thermostat and panel.
Turn off the main circuit breaker and remove the panel cover. Install the double circuit breaker on to the bus bars. Most circuit breakers have slots, which catch tabs and the breaker clicks down onto the bus bars once you hook the tabs on. Remove the cable sheathing from inside the panel box.

Thank you very much for your responses. I appreciate all your help and your sound advice. I’ll give you some more details on what I’ve got going so far. Hopefully that will both allow you to help me out a little more and ease any concerns. If required I would certainly purchase 3 conductor if I have to, but the cost of copper these days is so prohibitive, I was hoping to use what I have on hand. So that’s what I’ll do. I’m just trying to plan out my circuits before I start seriously feeding wire My question centers more around actual wiring.
Do I use the connections on both ends of the heaters they have identical connections on both ends for convenience to “pass through”, or simply connect them through wirenuts on the same end. And as for the question of efficiency, we looked at all the options when replacing our oil furnace and baseboard was the only realistic and affordable option for us. The actual effective heat you get out of it comes down to the efficiency of your house as a whole, which affects all heating systems equally.
Different rooms to create custom heating zones seems almost a no-brainer if you got the hardware.

CCC November 24, , 7: Assuming your local officials are competent, by pulling a permit you will ensure that the system is inspected by a qualified professional who will not sign off unless it is properly installed. Reply RLepage November 24, , 9: In some cities in BC, despite pulling a permit for work, this does not guarantee that an inspector will review the work.
They usually assume that the work is done by a competent and trained individual and have therefore deem the work compliant. As you can see, when the average water temperature of a 4 gpm flow through the baseboard is degrees F, each linear foot of baseboard will put out Btu/hr. However, if you lower the average water temperature to degrees F, each linear foot of baseboard will only put out Btu/:// /loop-system-hot-water-heating-q-and-a.
In most of Colorado, especially, electric is the most expensive. It does have the advantage of being controllable room by room, which is nice, but that usually won’t overcome the additional cost. There are a lot of homes in western Colorado that were built in the late ‘s and early ‘s with electric heat because, at that time, there was a several year moratorium on the issuance of new gas taps.
Builders had no choice. A lot of those homes have been subsequently converted to natural gas. Natural gas forced air is the cheapest to build, and that is why it is found in so many newer homes. Unfortunately, this is a place where a lot of homebuilders skimp–so, it’s a good idea to check the efficiency of the furnace. Forced air also is more difficult to “zone” by room and is generally “dirtier” because air must be moving whenever the furnace is running.
Baseboard hot water can be the most efficient, IF it is installed correctly and adequately zoned. Again, this is where a lot of builders cut corners to shave costs. Zoning room by room adds to both the complexity and cost to a hot water heat system, so a lot of homes may only have two or three zones for the whole house. That causes a loss of control and efficiency that can be achieved.

The baseboard heater thermostat helps you regulate the temperature in the room that contains the heater. The thermostat may be attached to an external wall or to the heater itself. Step 1 – Purchase the Right Baseboard Heater Thermostat Before you begin with the installation, you have to make sure you have bought the right type of baseboard heater thermostat. Your baseboard heater will be either or volts, and you need to purchase a thermostat with the same voltage.
The thermostat position on the wall or in the heater will also depend on the specifics of your heating unit. Therefore when buying a thermostat, you should ensure that it complies with the parameters of your heater. Step 2 – Turn Off the Electrical Power Go to the circuit breaker panel and turn off the breaker that feeds electricity to the baseboard heater.
If you are not sure which breaker it is, switch off the main circuit breaker. You must work in an electricity-free system, or you will endanger your own health and possibly your life. Step 3 – Study the Manual Take the thermostat out of the package and check the instruction manual for reference.
